What Is The Behavioral Health Ambassador Program (BHAP)?

Behavioral Health Ambassadors expose undergraduates to careers and issues in behavioral health. Ambassadors develop and deliver presentations to undergraduates at HBCUs. Additionally, Ambassadors engage in conversations with students considering careers in behavioral health.

Behavioral Health Ambassadors receive a $7,000 stipend and professional development via mentoring, exposure to resources, and a mini-conference.

Ambassadors serve in the role for one academic year.

Ambassador Eligibility Criteria:
  • Only US citizens can apply.
  • Eligible applicants must be completing a graduate program in a behavioral health field (counseling, psychology, social work, or nursing), a medical program, or a psychiatry residency at an HBCU.
  • Selected applicants must be engaged in an internship, fieldwork, or residency experience during the course of the Ambassadorship.
 
Ambassador Role & Requirements
 
Ambassadors must…
  • Conduct Presentations and Career Chats during their Ambassadorship.
  • Engage in strategic outreach and recruitment of undergraduates attending HBCUs that will attend their Presentations and Career Chats.
  • Attend monthly meetings and professional development training sessions.
  • Attend and participate in a Mini-Conference in the Spring semester of the Program.
  • Contribute content to the HBCU C.A.R.E.S. social media platforms.
 

Application Overview:

  • New Ambassadors are chosen each academic year.
  • Selected ambassadors will be in direct communication with the Program Manager during the summer leading into the next academic year.
  • Only completed applications will be reviewed.

Successful applicants may be interviewed after proper screening of the application packet has taken place. Your completed packet should be submitted at the same time.
